Summer Sampler 2019 Block 5: Tackling foundation paper-piecing

Good morning! Summer Sampler 2019 Block 5 is here! This is Rope Twist, by Amy Friend of During Quiet Time. I heart this block so hard, because after a few of the more time-consuming blocks, this little baby seemed like a breeze!

This is, of course, a foundation paper-pieced block. And that's our "Piecing Bootcamp" skill of the week: Paper-piecing. If you've never paper-pieced before, this block is a great way to try it out. It uses only two templates (most paper-pieced blocks have at least 4 templates), and once the paper-piecing portion is done, there are no seams to line up at all! Plus, Faith has kindly made a video demonstrating how to piece this block from start to finish. Trust me, you can't go wrong with this block as your paper-piecing firsty!

Oh, and one other thing: Don't you think ombrés are absolutely MADE for this block?? I cut my pieces of Ombré Confetti Metallics so that the darkest part of the ombrés ended up in the center of the block, and that gave it some extra dimensionality. (Is "dimensionality" a word? If not, it really should be.)

Okay! Let's line 'em up: Here's all five of the first five Summer Sampler 2019 blocks! Don't they look amazing together? And you really need to check out the #summersampler2019 hashtag for TONS more fabulous examples. There are some incredibly beautiful blocks this year!
